Los Angeles based newcomer Anne Dereaux popped up on our radar earlier this year after sharing the powerful video for debut single, Mourning. Since then, she’s released a string of impressive singles in the run up to sharing debut EP, Book of Lolita.

Today she continues her impressive run in the shape of, Lil Baby, the final single to be taken from the forthcoming EP.

The foundations of the track are drawn from traditional American folk song Didn’t Leave Nobody But The Baby, but producers Soraya La Pread and P Money have lost the folk instrumentation, preferring swirling synths and big bass kicks instead. Anne’s clear and sharp vocals float above this soundscape, faithfully reciting the lullaby, before breaking into an original verse in the second half of the song.

You can listen to Lil Baby below. You’ll also find it on the Mahogany Blog playlist on Spotify, along with all of our other favourite new releases.
