We first came across Toronto’s Charlotte Day Wilson via her exemplary 2016 record, CDW, which introduced us to her smouldering vocals and brand of stripped-back R&B. Since then, Charlotte has popped up on records by fellow Torontonians, BADBADNOTGOOD and Daniel Caesar, but she’s kept us waiting on her own solo material.

That changes this week however, with Charlotte returning to share her gorgeous new single, the slow-burning Doubt.

Over flute-like synths and gently throbbing percussion, Charlotte reflects on taking a lover for granted, confronting her own shortcomings in the process. Layers of crashing cymbals, electric guitar and gospel-infused backing vocals are introduced as the track builds to its gorgeous, shimmering crescendo, but never stealing the limelight from Charlotte’s velvet-like vocals.
