Most of us have danced or yelled along to the words ‘reminds me baby of you’; whether it was at an 80’s party, a wedding or while watching a movie. These lyrics come from the 1988 hit song called ‘Teardrops‘ by Womack & Womack, and a large number of us have probably heard it or sung along to it because this song just doesn’t seem to want to leave the airwaves.
This Womack & Womack hit has been covered at least nine times since it’s release, and that’s only counting the popular covers by artists such as Elton John, Joss Stone, Sugababes and The xx. There is undoubtedly a whole world of undiscovered ‘Teardrops’ to be unearthed.
Much to my delight, I recently stumbled upon one of these lesser known versions and have been replaying it for days since. This cover is performed by the Australian-based duo, Fortunes, who released their electronic/hip-hop/R&B Hoodie EP at the start of this year. Their relaxed beats, warm synths and the lead singers expressive vocals make for my favourite cover of ‘Teardrops’ yet.
