The start of the year is such an exciting time for new music. The forecast for 2016 is incredibly bright which is why we’re launching the Horizon series featuring new artists that we firmly believe are going to have a bumper year.
Songwriter and producer Alex Vargas has an incredibly unique energy. With powerful songs like ‘Giving Up The Ghost’ and ‘Solid Ground’ he gives electro-soul a new spin. Alex knows how to combine the contrast of highly delicate and strong soulful vocals with echoing guitars riffs and complex electronic notes. This is finest future R&B-soul.
Charlie Cunningham’s music will transport you to the coasts of Andalusia in Spain, where he lived and wrote music for two years. This detour can be heard in his flamenco-style guitar work, which weaves beautifully behind the acutely hummmmable melodies. His up-front and honest lyrics touch on introspective as well as emotive subject-matter through songs that are as complex as they are familiar.
Mahalia is a fascinating artist. Playing open mic nights since the age of 12, she received early support from Ed Sheeran who personally invited her to support him. She’s also had the opportunity to support Leon Bridges, Kwabs and Lianne La Havas, showing just how far Mahalia has come in a very short time. If that wasn’t enough, Mahalia can also boast featuring as vocalist and co-writer of the title track of Rudimental’s #1 album ‘We The Generation’.
We fell for The Beach on hearing his track ‘From Above’ which combines intricate acoustic guitar with refreshing waves of electronica. His debut EP ‘Maybe?’ premiered in October on Beats 1, to rapturous response. His delicate but incredibly powerful songs immediately caught the ear of Zane Lowe and were subsequently Q Magazine’s “Track Of The Day”.
