Jamila Woods first cam to our attention back in 2014, providing a triumphant chorus on Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment’s uplifting single Sunday Candy. This week, Jamila made her impressive debut LP, HEAVN, available to stream and shared the video for its lead single, the Chance the Rapper featuring, LSD.

The video is a colourful affair that finds Jamila and Chance throwing it down at a neighbourhood cookout, but the real story is how the video came to life.

Both Jamila and Chance are proud Chicago natives and avid supporters of its public schools system. Back in May, the pair invited Chicago public school students to submit creative treatments for the LSD video. The winner of competition, Ashley Huicochea, was then invited on set to shadow the directors bringing her ideas to life, whilst six runners-up also shadowed key crew members during the shoot.

You can watch the LSD video up top. You can also watch the super uplifting ‘making-of’ documentary here, featuring all of the high school students who took part in the video’s creation.
