Mahogany readers might be familiar with the music of LA band Local Natives: a whimsical, indie rock 5-piece whose albums we’ve loved at Mahogany for some time.  Kelcey Ayer, Local Natives’ vocalist and songwriter, has set out in the musical wilderness solo; the results being ‘Jaws of Love’ – a solo project, single and album all under the same name. The project began when Ayer was recording the third Local Natives album, and spent his down time recording a suite of piano based tracks all his own, initially without intention of releasing them.

‘Jaws of Love’ is a spellbinding piano ballad, reflecting on the trials and tribulations of even the most intoxicating love affairs. The piano is a central instrument that runs through all of the album. When asked about the project, Ayers has said “the whole project is me trying to embrace my nuances and indulge in it. I have dark piano music in my heart and soul, and Jaws of Love is me at my truest self”

Jaws of Love LP is available for pre-order now.
