Mahogany Minute with… Kllo
The Mahogany Minute is designed for those who haven’t got a huge amount of time on their hands, and artists who have even less. Every artist continues the same lines, and we all get to learn a little bit more about them.
We recently featured the brilliant new video for ‘Downfall’ from Australian duo Kllo. So to celebrate the the release of their debut album Backwater, we caught up with Simon and Chloe to find out all about life at home, procrastination, and life underwater.
Home is… Our home for creativity is London, our home for fun is Barcelona, our home for living is Melbourne (Simon)
It all started when…Our Mum’s told us to make a band (Simon)
Music has… been the thing that has stuck around. We’ve tried a lot of things, wanted to be lots of different people, but those things fade and music is always kind of merged to the surface again and again (Simon)
My music… is a constant work in progress. I’m not sure if it’ll ever be ‘done’. I hope it never is though. We feel like we’re getting to the bottom of what this project is a about, things are clearing up. We’re always excited to hear what the next step for us is (Simon)
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt.. its that its only going to be worth something to other people if its worth something to ourselves. We’ve tried doing it the other way and it just doesn’t work. Its a positive realisation though, it just means we can truly do what we want to do (Simon)
If I’m not in the studio or on stage…I’m most likely in bed. At least at the moment while we were creating and releasing this album, rehearsing for the tour etc (Simon)
I can’t perform unless… I’m stone cold sober (Simon)
I’ve never been… I’ve never been scuba diving. It’s one I hope to tick off the bucket list. I am so fascinated with life under water (Chloe)
I wish… I had good direction sense, i’m hopeless with maps which does’t help when we’re on tour (Chloe)
I can’t live without… my headphones. I love going for long walks and music is the great accompaniment with that, it keeps me sane (Chloe)
I find it very easy… to procrastinate. I’ve never been one to be good at studying, I need to find the discipline to not get side tracked by something more interesting at the time. An office job would not be possible for me (Chloe)
If there’s one song… that calms me down after a performance it would be on & on by Erykah Badu (Chloe)
In 20 years time… that’s too far ahead for me to think about. It’s important for me to be in the moment and in the now (Chloe)
Backwater is out today.
