Malika is on a seriously strong run of form. Having wowed us with last single, Run, the hotly-tipped British singer returns today with brand new single, I Live, and it’s another very impressive effort.

Whilst Run had a rather sombre tone, I Live is a gloriously upbeat affair, boasting some dangerously funky guitar licks. The track’s producer, Bearcubs, has excelled with the lush, 90’s R&B inspired soundscape he’s created, but it’s Malika’s vocals that are the star of the show here. Moving from a delicate falsetto to powerful declarations of her love in the blink of an eye, Malika’s vocal agility is something to truly admire and sets her apart from the rest of the UK’s thriving R&B scene.

Talking to Malika about the creative process behind the track, she explains that it “was pretty easy. First of all we had this amazing beat from Bearcubs, and I co-wrote the lyrics with Ian Dench, and we knew we had something in the ‘I live,I want, I give’ part of the chorus but it wasn’t quite fitting. We broke for lunch, came back and decided to take out the other lyrics and leave ‘I live, I want, I give’ and the rest they say is history”

We predict great things for her forthcoming EP, due to be released in September, but for now we can more than make do with I Live. You can listen below.
