Malian music has an incredible heritage and is some of the most beautiful in the world. Oumou Sangare is probably one of Mali’s most statuesque and famous songbirds, and she’s back with fresh studio album ‘Mogoya’ this May after an 8 year hiatus. Sangare’s voice is utterly unique – with a soaring power and clarity that always drives home her socially charged lyrics, and she is fine voice on her latest LP.

The first track to be released from it is ‘Yere Faga’ featuring the talent of none other than Nigerian born, Paris based drummer and songwriter Tony Allen. Allen brings his unique, rhythmic style to this track – a funk bassline, guitar loops and chorus backing melodies add layer upon layer to the jazzy, shuffled drums as Oumou’s voice soars over it all. Its a beautiful return from them both.
