Roots Manuva’s come back has been exciting to hear thus far. Not since the days of ‘Witness’ and ‘Dreamy Days’ have I heard Rodney on such fantastic form. With this latest EP release ‘Facety 2.11’, his production collaborations have been spot on. The A side, with Four Tet, is a barrage of beats and powerful, lyrical punches. However arguably better still is the thoughtful B side ‘Like A Drum’ in collaboration with bass producer Machinedrum.

With a sultry, pensive, hip hop looped sample, and just a hint of those rapid fire beats that Machinedrum is usually famed for, ‘Like A Drum’ is perfect head nodding, moving hip hop – only broken by a hefty bass driven breakdown before that loop comes back around again to finish. Lyrically, Roots has all the idiosyncratic poetry and verbal flair that we have come to love.
