Freya Ridings is a singer/songwriter from London with one of the best voices we’ve heard in a long time. Having impressed earlier this year with debut single Blackout, she’s back with new track, Maps – this week’s Track of the Week.

Though it’s a cover of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs 2003 hit, Freya’s version of Maps is so far removed from the original that it took us a couple of listens before we realised.

Losing the crashing guitars and pounding drums of the original and replacing them with nothing more than a piano ensures Freya’s voice is the focus of the track. And what a voice it is. Commanding, cracking with emotion and capable of moving from delicate to booming in the blink of an eye. It’s the kind of vocal performance that demands your absolute attention from the very first note and will hold it long after the last note has been sung.
