Back in March this year, 18 year-old Trinidad Cardona was filmed by a friend playfully freestyling in his high-school bathroom. Trinidad had been making music for a couple of years and had built up a small local following in his home state of Arizona, so shared the 30 second clip, titled Jennifer, on his Facebook page when he got home from school.

When he logged back into Facebook the next morning, the video had racked up a mind-blowing 7 million views.

One fan, clearly desperate to hear more of the catchy freestyle, then looped the original video for 4 minutes and uploaded it to YouTube. That extended version quickly raced to well over a million views – so Trinidad decided to re-record the song properly and release Jennifer as a proper single. A lo-fi, 90’s R&B inspired jam, Jennifer is further proof (if any were needed) of the power and speed of the internet, but, first and foremost, it’s one of the catchiest songs you’re likely to hear this year.
